MPD Mourns Lost of K-9 Dutch

It is with great sadness that the Minneapolis Police K-9 Unit announces that K-9 Dutch passed away this past weekend. K-9 Dutch was a 3 ½ year old Dutch Shepherd that was assigned to Officer Tom Fahey.

During an exercise session this past weekend, K-9 Dutch accidentally swallowed a lacrosse ball and it became lodged in his throat. After several desperate attempts by Officer Fahey and the University of Minnesota Veterinarian Staff the ball was finally dislodged from Dutch’s throat. The University of Minnesota Veterinarian Staff and Officer Fahey continued CPR on K-9 Dutch for a long period of time but unfortunately K-9 Dutch did not survive.

During his 2 years of street patrol, K-9 Dutch recorded numerous finds of suspects wanted for crimes within the City of Minneapolis. K-9 Dutch was also certified as an Explosives Detection K-9 and assisted with numerous explosive sweeps for dignitary and special events throughout Minneapolis.

Our sympathies to Officer Fahey for the tragic loss of his loyal K-9 partner Dutch.
