Officers from the MPD 3rd Precinct received a 911 report of a person dumping something into the caller’s garbage can. A good description of the vehicle was provided by the caller. Officers arrived on the scene and the suspect vehicle was gone. The information was passed along to all of the other 3rd Precinct officers and many of them began a concentrated search in the alleys.
Two officers located the suspect vehicle in another alley and stopped it. Drug paraphernalia was in plain view so they had the driver step out. As the driver got out of the car, an officer observed a handgun (later determined to be loaded) sitting on the seat.
Two passengers, both adults, were identified and released from the scene. The driver, a convicted felon, had a Department of Corrections warrant out for this arrest for Failing to Register as a Sex Offender. He was booked into the Hennepin County Adult Detention Center for Probable Cause Weapons, and the DOC warrant.
