Minneapolis Police Urging More Witnesses to Come Forward Following Homicide

May 11, 2016 (MINNEAPOLIS) Officers in the 4th Precinct responded to a shooting call at approximately 3:30 p.m. near the intersection of Olson Memorial Highway and Penn Avenue North. Officers arrived within 45 seconds of being dispatched and found an adult male who was deceased.

According to the preliminary investigation, detectives have determined there was an exchange of gunfire as several shell casings and at least one gun was recovered at the scene. There is no one in custody at this point. More than 20 officers secured the scene and assisted in diverting westbound traffic on Olson Memorial Highway, while other teams canvassed the area. MPD’s K-9 unit was also on scene helping investigators track down evidence.

4 Investigators have been assigned to this case. They’ve talked with a number of cooperative witnesses, and are urging more to come forward. Anyone with information on this crime is urged to call 612-692-TIPS.

The 4th Precinct Inspector has already identified the affected blocks as focus areas, but will continue to send more patrol resources to the neighborhood. Officers will also be knocking on doors and talking with neighbors about the incident, in an effort to address concerns and gather more information.

The victim’s identity will be released by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
