Late Saturday night, 2nd Precinct officers conducted a traffic stop. Officers were unable to ID two passengers who were not wearing seat belts, so they asked them to step out of the vehicle. While the front seat passenger was getting out of the vehicle, officers noticed that he had a loaded rifle (pictured below) between his legs. The individual began fighting with officers, then after a brief struggle, he was arrested. The individual was a convicted felon and therefore prohibited from possessing a firearm.
This is an example of how officers never know what they will encounter, even during a seemingly routine traffic stop. Officers are in dangerous situations like this day in and day out, we are grateful that everyone was able to walk away from this incident safely.
