There are certainly times when traffic stops can be routine, but there are also times when these stops turn into something much bigger. On Tuesday morning, a “routine stop” turned into a foot chase and the arrest of a man wanted for a number of violent crimes.
Officers from the 2nd Precinct stopped a vehicle for a license plate violation. They found the man in the front passenger seat was wanted for 3 felony warrants for kidnapping, sexual assault and assault.
While officers were arresting the suspect, he broke free and ran away. It didn’t take long for officers to chase him down. During a search of the suspect, officers found a loaded handgun in his front pocket. The suspect is a convicted felon and can’t legally possess a firearm.
The suspect was booked into the Hennepin County Jail. He is currently held on his felony warrants and he’s awaiting formal charge of possessing a firearm by a prohibited person. The MPD does not release booking photos prior to formal charges.
The Criminal Case Number is 17-053215.
