February 24th, 2017 (MINNEAPOLIS) Officers from the Minneapolis Police Department’s Gang Interdiction Unit were in the area of Ogema Place and E.M. Stately Street at approximately 7:30 p.m. tonight after a series of shots fired calls and robberies had been reported.
Officers saw a vehicle speeding in the area and turned on their emergency lights to stop the car. The suspect’s car did stop for the officers in a parking lot but ended up facing their squad head on. Officers exited their squad and started giving verbal commands to the suspect. He was not cooperating with the officer’s commands.
The suspect accelerated his vehicle, driving directly toward one of the officers. An officer discharged his handgun at the vehicle. The suspect drove away from the area and was located by officers near the 17th Avenue South and 28th Street East, where he was arrested. There were no injuries to the suspect or the officers.
The suspect has been identified as Travis Sigurd Gudmundson, age 26, out of Minneapolis. Gudmundson will be booked into the Hennepin County Jail on Probable Cause Felony Assault 4. His booking photo is available.
Both officers involved are on leave per department’s policy. The investigation is being conducted by the Minneapolis Police Department’s Homicide and Internal Affairs Units. There is body camera of this incident and its release is governed by state statute. Case Number 17-067457.
