April 30, 2017 (MINNEAPOLIS) This morning at 9:36 a.m., Minneapolis Police responded to a personal injury motor vehicle crash where four vehicles collided at the intersection of Blaisdell Avenue South and 26th Street West. Two vehicles traveling southbound on Blaisdell Avenue South failed to stop for a red light and struck two vehicles that were traveling westbound on 26th Street West.
Fifth Precinct Officers and paramedics from Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) arrived at the crash as Minneapolis Fire Department personnel were providing medical aid to five adult victims.
An adult male passenger in one of the vehicles that was traveling westbound on 26th Street West was pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics. The name of the deceased, as well as the cause and nature of his death, will be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office. An ambulance transported the remaining four victims to HCMC with non-life threatening injuries.
Three occupants in one of the vehicles traveling southbound on Blaisdell Avenue South remained at the scene, while the three occupants in the second vehicle that had been southbound on Blaisdell Avenue South fled on foot. Officers located one of the occupants that fled on foot; this person was interviewed by investigators and then released.
Immediately following the incident, officers canvassed the area, talking to residents and business owners. Investigators are hoping to find more witnesses or see if any surveillance video in the area may be helpful in this case. This crash is being investigated by the Minneapolis Police Department’s Homicide and Traffic Investigation Units. Case Number 17-156299.
