Officers Arrest 3 People after Responding to Fatal Shooting

May 11, 2017 (MINNEAPOLIS) Around 12:43 p.m. officers from the 4th Precinct responded to the 3700 block of 6th Street North on a report of a ShotSpotter activation. As they were responding to the area, the call was updated to a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers located one adult male victim suffering from a fatal gunshot wound to his chest. The male was pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics.

DSC04697The name of the victim, as well as the cause and nature of his death, will be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Hennepin County Sheriff’s Deputies were in the area of the shooting, heard gunshots and then observed a vehicle leaving at a high rate of speed. There were three people in the vehicle when deputies stopped it. The front seat passenger ran from the vehicle and deputies apprehended the two other suspects. A perimeter was established and the third suspect was located and apprehended with the help of a K-9. Several handguns were recovered from the suspect vehicle.

MPD’s Police Community Support Team and Police Chaplains were at the scene today talking with community members that had gathered. Officers from the Fourth Precinct will be in the area tonight and tomorrow talking with community members about the shooting. Anyone with information is encouraged to share it with officers.

The case is being investigated by the Minneapolis Police Department’s Homicide Unit. The case number is 17-171205.
