UPDATE: Second Person Dies Following Fatal Fire Three Weeks Ago

October 27, 2017 (MINNEAPOLIS) Homicide Investigators with the Minneapolis Police Department have learned that a second person has died as a result of this incident. The identity of this adult female will be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office. The previous hold on booking photo related to the male suspect in this case has been lifted at this point in the ongoing investigation.

Man Arrested from Last Night’s Fatal Fire

October 7, 2017 (MINNEAPOLIS) Officers assigned to the Homicide and Arson Units have made an arrest in the fatal fire that occurred on the 1500 block of Park Avenue South on 10/06/2017.

Marcus Dewayne Shanks, age 30, has been booked into Hennepin County Jail on Probable Cause Murder Charges. His booking photograph is being held.

The name of the deceased and the cause of his death will be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office. The female resident that was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) is in stable condition.

There is no further information to release at this time. The investigation is being handled by the Minneapolis Police Department’s Homicide and Arson Units and the Minneapolis Fire Department Arson Unit.
