Chief Harteau Walked the City, “Slept Out” for Homeless Youth

Since the introduction of MPD 2.0, Chief Harteau has tasked officers with getting out of their squad cars and walking the beat. The goal is to get to know residents and talk with them in non-emergency situations when possible. On September 27th and 28th, the Chief walked the walk and talked to the talk, visiting with residents in the 1st, 3rd and 4th Precincts. She visited areas in the city where police have dealt with difficult cases of recent gun violence. In between these visits, Chief Harteau took part in Youthlink’s “Night of Hope” Sleepout to raise youth homelessness awareness. Her night ended on a lawn downtown with 100 other business and civic leaders, as they slept in sleeping bags under the full moon.  Here’s a look at her night.
