Minneapolis Mounted Police Retire Longtime Police Horse

Thursday was a big day for the Minneapolis Mounted Police. The unit welcomed 3 new mounted officers, and retired Police Horse Schafer. Schafer served the department for 15 years, longer than any other police horse in the history of the mounted unit. His retirement home will be with Officer John Haugland who is a former mounted officer and currently works in K-9.

They also recognized Officer Vicki Karnik, who retired from the unit after 16 years of service this past December. She served the unit longer than any other rider.

Congratulations to the new mounted officers, and thanks to Police Horse Schafer and Officer Karnik for your years of service!
