Woman Struck by Gunfire Dies at Hospital

May 26, 2016 (MINNEAPOLIS) Shortly after 6:00 pm Thursday evening, Minneapolis Police Officers responded to a reported shooting in the area of 21st Avenue North and Penn Avenue North. Upon arrival, officers located an adult female sitting in a vehicle who had suffered a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to North Memorial Medical Center by ambulance.

The victim of the gunshot wound later died at the hospital. The medical examiner will release the identity of the victim along with the nature and cause of death.

Possible suspects were identified and located at a home in the 2100 block of Oliver Av N. Officers surrounded this house and several people were taken into custody.

On scene, detectives spoke with people in the area and uniformed officers canvassed the residences. Crime Lab personnel processed the scene and K9 officers looked for additional evidence. Homicide detectives are interviewing suspects at City Hall.

Officers will be conducting focused directed patrol in this area in the coming days. Further neighborhood canvassing will also be done by officers. People are strongly encouraged to speak with officers as they spend time in the area with any information to this crime or other community concerns.
