MPD Seeks Public’s Help in Carjacking Case

Did you see this vehicle (see attached photos) early Monday morning (August 1st) around University Avenue and 694? It was carjacked at gunpoint from a paraplegic man, then left on the University Avenue southbound ramp off of eastbound 694. The suspects shot the man twice. We are hoping someone saw the suspects and can help us solve this case.

More Info: On Monday, August 1, 2016 around 4:45am a male victim who is a paraplegic was in the driver’s seat of his dark green Ford Expedition (MN Plate 351-HTD). The Expedition has special controls so he can drive it. He was parked in front of his home in South Minneapolis when two male suspects walked up to the driver’s door, opened it and ordered the victim to get out of his truck. The victim was unable to get out because he cannot walk. The suspects shot him twice and the victim sustained a gunshot wound to the chest.

The victim fell out of the driver’s seat and onto the street. The suspects jumped into his truck and drove off.

Sometime between the time of the shooting and 9:15am on Monday, August 1, 2016, the suspects abandoned the truck on the University Avenue southbound ramp off of eastbound 694. The abandoned vehicle was left in the middle of the ramp, blocking traffic.

The truck was likely abandoned on the ramp as people were going to work on Monday morning. Detectives would like to talk to anyone who saw the Ford Expedition or the suspects who got out of the truck.

We are hoping someone in the area saw the suspects and will call the Minneapolis Police Department at 612-673-2616. A person can also text their tip into 847411 (TIP411).  Enter MPD, a space, and then the information.  These text messages are assigned a tip number and the police department has no way of identifying the source of the information.  All texts are anonymous.  Persons may also call the MPD TIP Line at 612-692-TIPS (8477).
