Man Dies after an Assault with a Vehicle


October 24, 2016 (MINNEAPOLIS) Officers from the Third Precinct responded to a report of an adult male that had been struck by a vehicle on Saturday, October 22nd, at 11:08 p.m. on the 2900 block of Portland Avenue South.

When officers arrived at the scene, they located a 37-year-old male in the street and started providing medical care to him. The victim was transported by paramedics to Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) with significant injuries. The male victim died today, October 24, 2016 at HCMC.

Officers arrested Tristen Elijah Baier, 20, a short distance away with the help of witnesses. Baier was booked into Hennepin County Jail for Probable Cause First Degree Assault.  Baier is currently in jail and is awaiting additional charges, as the victim is now deceased.

Investigators from the Minneapolis Police Department’s Traffic Investigation and Homicide Units are continuing to investigate the incident. At this point in the investigation, it has been determined that Baier intentionally struck the victim with a vehicle.

The name of the victim, as well as the cause and nature of his death, will be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office.
