Update on Overnight Death
July 2, 2018 (MINNEAPOLIS) Investigators from the Minneapolis Police Department’s Homicide Unit continue to investigate the incident in the area of SE University and Oak Street resulting in the death overnight.
An adult male subject was taken into custody at the scene and interviewed. He was booked into the Hennepin County Adult Detention Center and was released pending additional investigation and possible complaint.
This male subject called 911 during the incident and spoke with dispatchers and stayed on the scene until squads arrived. The individual continues to cooperate with the detectives.
The Medical Examiner will release the identity of the victim as well as the nature and cause of death in the near future.
July 1, 2018 (MINNEAPOLIS) On Sunday evening at 11:02 pm, Minneapolis Police responded to the area of SE University Avenue and Oak Street on a report of an altercation between two adult males. Officers arrived and took one man into custody and the other man was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center with critical injuries. The man died at the hospital a short time later.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the two encountered each other at Sally’s Saloon earlier. They left that establishment and ended up in the area of SE University and Oak Street where the altercation became physical.
The Minneapolis Police Department homicide detectives responded to the scene and interviewed a number of people. The Minneapolis Police Department Crime Lab responded and processed the scene for evidence.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will provide the identity of the decedent along with the nature and cause of death.
