A Daily Dose of Great Police Work doesn’t always have to mean feats of heroism; rather it can be an instance when officers make a positive impact on someone’s life by a compassionate act
Shortly after taking over the East Hennepin Ave Beat in June, an MPD officer noticed a homeless man who would come and sit on the sidewalk near the substation each day. The officer would talk with the man, Scott, occasionally and discovered that he served two tours as a Marine in conflict in Afghanistan but is now severely dependent on alcohol. The officer began to receive complaints from a business owner who reported Scott sleeping on his property and asked the officer to send him. Scott told the officer that he had limited options and was trying to get to Ames, Iowa where he had friend to live with. The officer used his own money to purchase a bus ticket for Scott to Ames, Iowa.
