February 8, 2019 (MINNEAPOLIS) This morning the Minneapolis Police Department responded to an attempted sexual assault that occurred at approximately 6:00 a.m. near the 600 block of 8th Street SE. The victim, a University of Minnesota Twin Cities student, was walking when she was grabbed by the suspect. The suspect attempted to pull the victim into nearby bushes while he groped her. The victim was able to get away and the suspect fled into the neighborhood. No weapons were implied or observed and the victim describes the suspect as male, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, unknown race and age, wearing all black and smelling of cigarettes.
Staff from the Minneapolis Police Department’s Second Precinct are distributing flyers in the area and knocking on doors to advise the public of this incident and share personal safety messaging today and in the days to come.
The University of Minnesota Police Department is working closely with the Minneapolis Police Department on this case.
