March 8, 2019 (MINNEAPOLIS) Just before midnight on Thursday evening, March 7th Minneapolis Police responded to a report of a rear-end crash in the area of 22nd Street West and Lyndale Avenue South. Information provided was that the driver of one vehicle had fled the area on foot and was being pursued by a passenger from the other car.
A short period of time later, officers were advised that a physical altercation had taken place on the 2100 block of Aldrich Avenue South and one person needed medical attention. Officers arrived and found one individual was in grave condition and attempted life-saving aid until they were relieved by paramedics. That person was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.
Officers on scene took one person into custody. This adult male was transported to the Homicide Unit where he was interviewed and released pending further investigation.
The Minneapolis Police Department Traffic Unit responded to the scene of the crash and is handling that portion of the investigation. The Minneapolis Crime Lab personnel responded to the scene of the altercation and collected evidence for forensic processing.
Patrol officers and homicide investigators canvassed the area and spoke with several people who may have seen or heard something.
The identity of the deceased, along with the nature and cause of death, will be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office.
