One in Custody After Early Morning Homicide

June 10, 2019 (MINNEAPOLIS) At 2:18 am Monday morning, officers from the Minneapolis Police Department were monitoring bar close downtown. Officers in the area of North 5th Street and Hennepin Avenue heard the sound of gun shots and responded to the area of the alley between Hennepin Avenue and 1st Avenue.  A group of people was seen running from the alley.

Other officers arrived in the alley and located two adult males who had been shot. Both victims were transported to Hennepin County Medical Center where one died shortly after arrival.

A witness pointed out to officers an adult male who had been involved in the shooting. Officers attempted to take him into custody and a foot pursuit ensued.  Officers were able to take the subject into custody.   James David Wren/DOB: 06-10-1984 has been booked into the Hennepin County Adult Detention Center for Probable Cause Murder. A hold has been placed on his booking photo for investigative reasons in accordance with Chapter 13 of Minnesota State Statutes.

Investigators from the Minneapolis Police Department Homicide Unit have interviewed people at the scene and are following up on leads generated.

The Minneapolis Police Department Crime Lab responded and processed the scene, collecting evidence for further analysis.
