Victim Succumbs to Early Morning Shooting

September 23, 2019 (MINNEAPOLIS) Sunday morning, September 22nd, at 5:31 am., Minneapolis Police received a ShotSpotter notification of shots fired on the 1800 block of Emerson Avenue North.  Additional callers to 911 reported the sounds of shots being fired in the area.

Officers arrived and located an adult male, formally identified by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office as Samale Ahmed Barkhadle/DOB: 12-15-1989, with gunshot wounds. Officers provided emergency aid until relieved by paramedics.  The scene and surrounding area was secured and officers spoke with people who were in the area.

The victim was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center where he died much later in the day.

Investigators from the Minneapolis Police Department Homicide Unit have taken over the investigation from the Assault Unit. No one is in custody at this time.

The Minneapolis Police Department Crime Lab responded and processed the scene, collecting evidence for further analysis.

The nature and cause of death, will be released by the Medical Examiner.
