Crash Leaves Pedestrian Dead

February 5, 2020 (MINNEAPOLIS) On Wednesday, February 5th at 3:10 am, officers from the Minneapolis Police Department responded to a report of a pedestrian hit by a car on Hiawatha Avenue South and 26th Street East.

Officers arrived and located an adult male, believed to be in his 50’s, who was struck by a car.  The driver of the vehicle, an adult male believed to be in his 20’s, remained on the scene and is cooperating with investigators.  The pedestrian was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center where he died a short time later.

Preliminary investigation yields that the striking vehicle was southbound on Hiawatha Avenue and struck the pedestrian crossing the street from east to west.  Investigators will be using traffic cameras to verify information received at the scene.

There is no indication that the driver was impaired at the time of the crash.

The Minneapolis Police Department ‘s Crime Lab responded and the traffic unit mapped the scene for reconstruction.

The identity of the victim, along with the nature and cause of death, will be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office in the coming days.
