February 6, 2020 (MINNEAPOLIS) On Thursday evening at 9:28 pm., Minneapolis Police responded to a report of a shooting that occurred on the 100 block of North 9th Street. Further information received is that the shooting happened on a Metro Transit Bus and that two people were shot.
Officers from the Metro Transit and Minneapolis Police Departments quickly arrived and secured the scene while provided aid. Officers from the Metro Transit provided a detailed description of the shooter and the direction of travel. Officers from the Minneapolis Police Department located the suspect on the 700 block of Nicollet where they took him into custody without incident and recovered a gun.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the bus was stopped and the suspect, a male 26 years of age, got onto the bus and shot two people who were seated on the bus. Both victims were struck by gunfire and the suspect fled on foot headed east. No one else on the bus was injured.
One victim was pronounced dead at the scene while the other victim suffered critical injuries. He was transported to the Hennepin County Medical Center where he is expected to survive his injuries.
The Minneapolis Crime Lab responded and processed the scene. This is a joint law enforcement investigation with the Minneapolis Police Department being the lead agency.
The identity of the victim, along with the nature and cause of death, will be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office in the coming days.
