July 23, 2020 (MINNEAPOLIS) – On Thursday, July 23rd at 6:05 pm, officers from the Minneapolis Police Department responded to the report of a shooting in the area of 35th and Chicago Avenue South.
Officers arrived and located a juvenile male, believed to be 17 years of age, suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency care including CPR was immediately provided by officers until they were relieved by paramedics. The victim was loaded into the ambulance in grave condition and transported to Hennepin Healthcare where he died shortly after arriving.
Officers immediately cordoned off the area and investigators from the Minneapolis Police Department’s Homicide Unit were called to the scene along with the Crime Lab personnel.
Officers also canvassed the area and spoke with several people.
Preliminary investigation indicates that two people were in a business near 35th and Chicago Avenue South when they encountered each other. They went outside and the suspect shot at the victim. The victim was struck and fell to the ground. The suspect fled the scene prior to the arrival of officers.
The Medical Examiner’s Office will release the identity of the victim as well as the nature and cause of death in the coming days.
