August 26, 2020 (MINNEAPOLIS) On Monday morning, August 24th at 2:20 am, Minneapolis Police, Fire and Hennepin Healthcare Ambulance responded to a hit and run personal injury accident in the area of the 600 block of Franklin Avenue West. Information received on their way to the call was that it was a car versus pedestrian crash.
Officers were flagged down by a person at the scene who directed the officers to the victim. Officers began to provide immediate aid to the adult male victim, believed to be in his 30’s, until relieved by fire personnel.
The victim was transported to Hennepin Healthcare in grave condition by paramedics.
Preliminary investigation indicates the victim was walking to his car that was parked on the south side of Franklin Avenue. As he was at the side of his car, the suspect vehicle struck him, pinning him between the cars momentarily. When the suspect vehicle fled, it caused the victim to become airborne and land in the street.
Late in the evening of August 25th, the Minneapolis Police Department was notified the victim in this case died at the hospital.
The MPD traffic unit responded along with crime lab personnel. Homicide detectives are now assigned to this case.
The identity of the victim, along with the nature and cause of death, will be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office in the coming days.
