One Dies at Hospital After Early Morning Shooting

December 20, 2020 (MINNEAPOLIS) – On Sunday morning at 2:25 am, officers from the Minneapolis Police Department were in the area of the 3200 block of Aldrich Avenue North when they heard the sound of multiple gunshots.

While officers searched for the origin of the shots, 911 calls came in reporting the sound of shots fired.  A ShotSpotter notification came into the Minneapolis Emergency Communications Center.

A call also came in from North Memorial Medical Center advising that a person, described as a 17-year-old male, had just come in via private transport.  This person had been shot and was in grave condition.

Due to the severity of the injuries, a homicide team was sent to the scene along with the Minneapolis Police Department’s Crime Lab.

Preliminary information is that the victim was engaged in a confrontation that escalated into a shooting.  The suspect(s) fled prior to officer’s arrival.

The homicide detectives were notified later that the victim died at the hospital.

The Medical Examiner will release the identity of the victim, along with the nature and cause of death in the days to come.
