On Saturday, January 2nd at 12:14 pm, Minneapolis Police officers responded to a report of a Somali female, in her mid- 70’s, shot and beaten on the 1700 block of 22nd Street East.
Officers arrived and located an elderly female who had been shot and pistol whipped so severely that a metal piece of the gun broke off and was found at the scene. The lone female suspect fled the scene with the victim’s purse containing her rent money.
The victim was immediately transported to Hennepin Health Care where she received emergency care to save her life. Her injuries included a fractured skull and brain bleed from the beating and wounds from being shot.
Investigators from the Minneapolis Police Department’s Robbery and Homicide Units handled this case and through tenacious work, identified a possible suspect.
On Wednesday, January 8th, detectives went to an address in Brooklyn Park and executed a search warrant. As a result of this warrant, detectives located the gun that is missing the part located at the scene.
The suspect, Da’Seanna D. Williams, 21, was arrested and transported to the Minneapolis Police Department. In an interview, Williams admitted to shooting and beating the woman. She was booked into the Hennepin County Adult Detention Center where she has been charged with the following:
Count 1: Aggravated Robbery – 1st Degree – FELONY
Count 2: Assault – 2nd Degree – Dangerous Weapon – Significant Bodily Harm – FELONY
Through additional investigation, Williams has been identified in a series of robberies in the Cedar Riverside area where Somali individuals have been targeted. Those investigations are ongoing.
