Sophina Lindquist loves the police and has a hobby of bringing them cookies. On Monday, July 23rd she was showered with love at Children’s Minnesota. Lt. Kim Lund and Officers Graupner, Nolan and Thunder joined the MAWP board to visit Sophina and bring her gifts. Sophina will be in the hospital for a while.
On Wednesday, July 18th the City of Minneapolis cleared 13-year-old Jaequan Faulkner to sell hot dogs. Faulkner’s stand at 1510 Penn Ave N is officially permitted. On Tuesday, July 17th Minneapolis and St. Paul Police and Fire Departments went head to head in Chicago’s Taste Authority’s 9th annual ‘Wiener Take All’ hot dog eating contest for charity. On Friday, July 13th the Community Engagement Team went to the Hospitality House located at 1220 Logan Avenue North for the Summer Meals program. Officers played basketball, soccer and had lunch with youth in the building. The officers and youth had a great time spending time with each other.
On Wednesday, July 11th Officer Edwards with the Community Engagement Team set up a ‘Cooking with the Community’ event at Breaking Bread in North Minneapolis. The community and officer prepared a meal together then had positive conversations while enjoying their food.
The Community Engagement Team conducted their weekly visit to the House of Charity. Officers served food to over 200 homeless people. They also encountered a 10 year old girl who was in need of a bicycle. The officers had a bicycle with them and presented her with a brand new bike.
On Thursday, July 12th officers reached out to a family with 3 children who are recovering from an accident. The kids were struck and injured by a vehicle while playing on a playground in North Minneapolis. On Tuesday, July 10th the Community Engagement Team (CET) along with Chief Arradondo hosted a “Chat with the Chief” at Teto’s Barbershop located at 2124 West Broadway in the 4th Precinct. Officers from the Neighborhood Directed Patrol joined CET. Officers and the community had a great discussion regarding current concerns.
Community Engagement Officers attended the Somali Independence Day Festival on Lake Street this past weekend in the 5th Precinct. They handed out ice cream sandwiches and Freezies. Officers and the community had a wonderful time and great conversations took place.
On Monday, July 2nd Community Engagement Officers served over 200 community members at the House of Charity. Officers were joined by CFO/CEO of the organization, Tanya Batalska, and had a great time engaging with the community.
