Sergeant “Mo”, as he is affectionately known in the community, helped guide the MPD through its nationally-recognized Police Executive Research Forum project in Cedar-Riverside. The project has created a model for agencies, both nationally and internationally, to follow as they reach out to their immigrant communities. A community that once feared the police and didn’t trust police officers, is now among our strongest public safety partners after this direct outreach geared at understanding each other. Mo is one of the MPD’s 5 Somali-speaking officers and is currently working as an Assault Investigator and Crisis Intervention Team Negotiator. He has been requested to speak to numerous law enforcement agencies in the US and Canada.
